Interview with Luca Cefis on his book: "Children of thieves. The whole truth about the lives of Roma children, including degradation and indifference"

RADIO , March 14, 2011 - 16:45 - Andrea Di Billau

The "camps": the place of lawlessness. Cost and do not want them not to perpetuate segregation. Who grows it seems destined to become a thief and a beggar. Why are moved but never abolished? To those who really need? These and other questions arise Cefis Luca, an expert on immigration, in a shocking and well documented essay on Gypsy children, a very young age enrolled in a tough fight for survival. Cefis brings us the Roma society: the archaic patriarchal model, group solidarity, life "free" by the rules of the outside world. Explain how the matter should be read out by appearances and stereotypes: the Roma are not, contrary to how they would like urban legends, or potential rapists nor "Stolen Children", and few are nomads by choice. For the first time a voice is raised against a grave social evil that grows in the most shameful indifference.

Luca Cefis: The immigration debate is backward country

For Luke Cefis, the Bureau of the PES: "In normal countries, there is no 'one right and one left against immigrants in favor. This' discussion of a backward country. Immigration and' a historical phenomenon and social, more 'rich benefits that are not problems. " For example - continues Cefis - and 'false to say that immigration undermines the security: "Without prejudice to the crime of illegal immigration, immigrants commit crimes in the same proportion of Italians. The Government and the center-right insult immigrants, the center is not liable for fear of losing votes. Only the Catholic Church makes its voice heard. We must make it clear that the 5 billion to Gaddafi data are a waste of money. "

A truly incredible story, worthy of a story by Philip Dick. Keyes romance skillfully the story of Billy Milligan, by a long relationship with the protagonist and a meticulous reconstruction of events by the witnesses. The book is shocking, disturbing and fascinating at the same time, more than 500 pages while you are literally flying through one of the most improbable stories ever told.

engine Miami Blues is certainly unlikely. Is very unlikely that the murder starts the story even more unlikely, if possible, a series of coincidences arising from them. Frederick J. Frenger jr. is, as we know from the first line, a brilliant psychopath from California, who lives by stealing others' identities and faces the world with an innocent, and at the same time terrifying lucidity, leaving the reader puzzled to the last row. There is no moral, but a conscious, albeit unacceptable, sure. Everything is pervaded by a sort of apathy in some cases interpreted as stupidity, in others as delirium, which pervades the book with a 'troubled and tragic light. See Josh Bazell not to die, Einaudi 2009

Rating 9.5 / 10

Paper really really recommend it to Josh Bazell, writer and doctor, who began with an original novel , high impact and, above all, fun. 'See not to die' door, with a nimble writing to situations beyond the point of absurdity, but always anchored in a tragicomic reality. A race against time full of grotesque elements, parody and at the same time romantically jaded. To read at all.

A book that looks like a film, featuring a highly paratactic writing that gives it a relentless pace, even if sometimes a bit 'too nervous. Compelling characters and situations even though both elusive in too many cases, a merchant of arms featuring a cross between a white collar and a guerrilla fighter, with her only a moral, sometimes detonator at times overwhelmed by events. To my taste some scenes too long, especially the inevitable final battle, full of f Reeza frame and rapid zooming, maybe looking at times a lyricism not really necessary. Adrenaline would be the more appropriate term, nice and fast, especially if you do not have too many pretensions beyond action.

demerit Note the many typos and a couple of translations from just guessed.

Do not judge a book by its cover, sometimes you just do not succeed, but the novel is Krajewsky advice to follow. Not because he said something wrong, simply does not reflect in any way the content of the novel. A photo in the late nineteenth century early twentieth-century style that refers to lustful dreams opiates, women naked in a greenish gloom that might be hallucinating or dame vampire prostitutes like those that trap Harker in Dracula's Castle, if you add that Krajewsky teaches classical philology at the University of Wroclaw (now Wroclaw) certainly has not led to imagine that Eberhard Mock, the protagonist of the series, a character can be managed so modern, in a kind of saturated with imitations, or worse, would-be innovations, such as the noir detective.

Stuart M. Kaminsky Murder on the Golden Path

Stuart M. Kaminsky

Death on the Golden Path, Freestyle Noir , 2005

rating 9 / 10

Stuart M. Kaminsky was born in Chicago and member of the 'Hard Boiled Renaissance' of the seventies (of which James Crumley is certainly the most significant representative) has been a revelation for myself. How many authors of the genre, hangover or less celebrated masters of Chandler and Hammett, unfortunately, at least in Italy, it's still too little. Fortunately in recent years have witnessed a partial clearance of what can be more or less included in that cauldron that is called noir, this was surely due to the spread of best-selling authors like that, read James Ellroy, in addition to the intelligent layman's work in the media of sound and competent enthusiast, a all Carlo Lucarelli, which among other things founded by Luigi Bernardi, the wonderful series 'Noir' for freestyle Einaudi. Kaminsky, as well as having created many fortunate people, especially Rostnikov, the inspector Moscow protagonist of a popular series of novels, has worked with big names in international cinema of the seventies, contributing nothing to the dialogues of There was a Time in America Sergio Leone.

Death on the Golden Path Hard Boiled explicitly reiterates the vein of the forties and the figure of the detective Toby Peters, penniless and alone, womanizer and often outsider , ironically recalls and convincing strokes of originality Spade and the Continental Op predecessors Beyond dell'accattivante incipit, and the tragicomic grotesque murder of a dwarf (Marameo) on the set of The Wizard of Oz Fleming, surely one of the most interesting of the book is very successful mixture of facts and fictional characters and real situations, which ascribes the novel in the now consolidated faction, now a general characteristic of postmodernism. Peters will have to do it, among others, Judy Garland, Clark Gable, Louis B. Mayer, and even with humor and style, combined with an obvious devotion to the author, with Raymond Chandler. Character very successful one created by Kaminsky, light and original features which adds to a tradition already been codified, but without joining the move to overturn a sincere love for the genre to an undeniable narrative talent.

well Luca Conti says in an afterword, when framed in the coordinates Todoroviane George Stroud:

The crime is done in the first pages and suspicions of the police focus on a certain person (the main character). To prove his innocence, he must contrive to find the culprit, even if it means he risks his life. We can say that, in this case, the main character is both the detective, the culprit (in the eyes of the police) and the victim (potential) of the real murderers. a

and similarly known as sharply, despite the chorus of voices, but never for a second degree, focused on a single event, the structure of the novel can not be ascribed in focus Multiple internal theorized by Genette 2. Crime and the guilty are known from the beginning, and, paradoxically, the protagonist will have to investigate itself (with nearly unlimited available sources) to prove his guilt, all the orders of his boss, the real murderess. The book is a series of short chapters narrated in first person, in which almost all the players tell the story in which they are involved. The development of the story is then given from the evolution of the investigations, the crime you know everything at once, but by the protagonist's attempts to juggle the huge gear mechanisms 3 that he helps create. Fearing outlines the characters in an essential and intelligent, does mean everything to them, often with a genuinely surprising and successful posting the obvious, until the reader comes to know of the affair more of the same protagonists. Walter Mosley, Little Scarlet , Einaudi 2008

Booooring, say an American. Rather than boring, Mosley's book is actually really obvious, despite the obvious claim to reflect on major issues and at the same outlining memorable characters. 'One of the most complex of contemporary noir, the only true heir of the legendary private detective of Chandler and Hammet' triumphalist reads the back cover; agree that you must sell the book, however, say two is a nonsense in two lines bit ' too. It must be admitted that Mosley is a good storyteller, with a smooth and linear style, and although the pace is a bit 'patchy and fragmented, the result can be understood but not enthusiastic. A narrative, however slight, which reduces the contents of a list of cliches . Easy Rawlins is a detective by profession, as so often in the genre, but a veteran of World War II in color, which is to investigate a murder during the uprising in Los Angeles in August 1965.

is explicitly on the side of African Americans, in a continuous 'our poor people against the white slave masters and a corrupt and indifferent towards us', not because they refused, in its purity of thought, to help a deserving white, from which it will, as all who know him, infinite gratitude for his lucid pity. Beyond the buried image of the hero without blemish and without fear, that even more out of place in urban America of the sixties, one could be this simple one-way thinking as an attempt to contextualize the character in the historical situation, as say, a black man in Watts in 1965 could only think so. Can be justified and consistent effort, but certainly neither complex nor too decent, with the aggravating fact that the book was written in 2004, by the time we could now compare well with other descendants of Hammett and Chandler. Another attempt to cut the figure of Rawlins, if not original, at least unusual, is to give it an unconventional family: two adopted children and a faithless wife. Crumley had done with piercing sweetness, while Mosley is caught by the pathos and patina of decency that permeates the whole book: the children are of course two unfortunate that he has saved from a doomed future, and it goes without saying, I love it, while the wife, ran the first time with none other than a prince, has always ensured that it never had intercourse with her lover. In short, even when it loses not lose out much, and what looks like the engine to a well-deserved escapade is resolved with the hero who sacrifices a chaste love the scent of youth not to fall short of its responsibilities. In short, Rawlins is a real winner, and without even much effort. In a besieged city where street violence reigns he can investigate without problems, without having to devise intricate ploys to gain access to situations that are normally forbidden to ordinary citizens since, almost sensing his immaculate mission of justice, the powerful deputy chief of police gives him a pass that allows him to move anywhere without having to give an explanation of sorts to the various authorities. The reality is hard-boiled heroes made, and therein lies much of their charm, the outcasts of society: drug dealers, prostitutes, bartenders seedy, petty criminals and fraudsters. Even in his knowledge of the delinquent hero Mosley is particularly lucky: one is simply the most dangerous criminal in LA (sic), while the other, small crook, is an undisputed genius, and of course both have the hero their valuable gratitude.

when it needs to heal Rawlins turns to a mysterious magician, the repository of ancestral tribal remedies far more effective than any white man's medicine, which stupidly does not recognize the validity and power of fascinating traditions of African Americans, come from think about the good old days when the detective is stuffed with amphetamines and codeine to drive twelve hundred miles without being overwhelmed by fatigue and pain.

Even the dreams of Rawlins are clear and explicit (the metaphor really ridiculous dream of him every reason to continue trying to clean a reality destined to get dirty).

short Mosley's hero is a womanizer, invincible, generous, fair, determined, with clear ideas, lucky, and modest;

'My luck was unbelievable. I only had to stay at your desk, and everything I wanted - sex, love, information ...- I reached by phone or knocking on the door '.

resulting really passed out or just boring place, especially for the alleged overt and absolutely failed, to give the book a memorable tone, just because it attempts to fit into a genre that owes its greatness to overcome, too many years before, just those cliché draws strength from which the main character of Little Scarlet .
